about

Early on in the process, we decided that "Jekyll.Hyde" should be the centerpiece of the album. Everything was crafted around the presentation and resolution of that strange, mammoth piece.

As such, two pieces were deliberately crafted to frame "Jekyll.Hyde" - "The Other Side" and "Old Nightmares."

"The Other Side" stemmed from my SoundCloud description for an early version of "Jekyll.Hyde" we released. 'This music was produced and meant to be enjoyed at a high volume. Turn it up and play it loud.' It was Nate's idea to include this, sort of Central Scrutinizer-ish announcement. We also wanted to emphasize that there are two 'halves' of the album - the more song based first half and the much more experimental second half that runs like a single piece of unbroken music.

This has Nate, once again, twiddling the dials on the old ARP 2600 and slapping the table to get the 'whip' sounds. There's also a bit of uncredited sampling of one of my pieces, "Don't Pull Me Out" and some strands of other tunes drifting by. I wanted there to be connective tissue running through the whole album to give it SOME continuity despite the fact that it's all over the place. I think I nicked that idea from Gong.

I won't ruin it by telling you how the vocal FX were achieved, but suffice it to say that no studio tallbacks were harmed in the making of this album ...
