about

The second track "Questions?" was composed in something of a marathon writing session that also produced "Sea Shanty." These pieces were both recorded (if memory serves) on the same day ... at least the initial demos were.

"Questions" began life actually as a punk number (the version which you hear at the end of the album), but when Nate arrived at the studio, he realized he couldn't really record it as such, so it was reimagined as a piano bar number. I believe I suggested we eventually record and release both versions as a sort of tribute to Peter Gabriel's "Here Comes the Flood" (something of a shared influence between us).

This is one of the handful of songs Nate plays all of the instruments on (piano, bass, and voice) - there's a subtle little vocal effect at play that switches between the verses and choruses. I won't ruin it by telling you how we accomplished this. ;-)

As the guy responsible for sequencing / titling a lot of the tracks, it was my idea to differentiate the two with the question mark (?). This is both a nod to Pink Floyd's "In the Flesh?" / "In the Flesh" and also an indication that the punk version is the 'original' "Questions" and it is in fact the piano bar version that is the imposter.

lyrics

Why should it be -
any different for you and me?
And what are your plans,
and who's there to hold your hand?
And how can you see what the future holds for me?
And where is the girl, that I've seen so many times before?

Chorus -
And why should I cry for you?
And who can you blame, but you?
I'm searching all over town,
and I can't find you around.
You're no where I can see,
although you're standing right in front of me.

And what can you mean, that you're through with me?
and how you say all these years have meant nothing?
And why have you come, and left without a trace?
And where have you been,
I've looked all over the place ...

Chorus
